Donations and Legacies
Regular charitable donations
We know that, whether you are an individual or a business, making donations to a number of causes can be time consuming, especially when using the Gift Aid process. At Ethical Giving we can help make your charitable giving easier and more efficient. For example, you might want to make a charitable donation of £1000 this year. If you pay this to Ethical Giving we can increase this to £1250 by claiming Gift Aid relief. You can choose to make one or multiple donations from this sum. The choice is yours - the administration is ours.
When we distribute the money you can choose whether it's sent anonymously or whether you'd like them to know it was from you.
The Gift Aid scheme is for gifts of money by individuals who pay UK tax. Gift Aid donations are regarded as having basic rate tax deducted by the donor. Charities take your donation - which is money you've already paid tax on - and reclaim the basic rate tax from HM Revenue & Customs (HMRC) on its 'gross' equivalent - the amount before basic rate tax was deducted. Basic rate tax is 20 per cent, so this means that if you give £10 using Gift Aid it's worth £12.50 to the charity. HMRC
Nominating Ethical Giving in your Will
By writing Ethical Giving into your will to receive your charitable gift when you die you are reducing the long term costs of your will by making your donation future proof. Let's look at an example: -
Let's assume you'd like to nominate 10 charities to benefit on your death. At the time you draft your will the ten groups are really simple to name and record. However, over the years charities come and go, change their names and re-brand, issues come and go and each and every change will involve you paying to amend your will.
By nominating Ethical Giving as the single charity in your will you'll be free to deal directly with us to list all the individual groups that you would like to benefit; you can change the list as often as you like without charge and without having to amend your will. If you prefer, you can 'theme' your donations. By this we mean specifying an area that you'd like to support (poverty relief, helping children in developing countries, faith-based groups, animal welfare etc) without actually naming a particular group. On your death we take your theme and distribute your legacy across a wide range of appropriate groups and projects. If you like we can let your executors know which groups have benefited.
We will provide you with a personal service and send you updates and statements together with any information that may help to support your decision in choosing a charity to support.

Ethical Giving can help businesses make multiple donations to charity using only a single payment.
Why not involve your staff in the decision, perhaps having a vote and picking the top ten suggestions? Staff can bring their own ideas to you, or look at the increasingly long list of projects and groups that will be listed on our web site. A single donation to Ethical Giving is administratively very simple, but you can of course publicise your nominated list - maximum publicity with minimum administration.
